Packing for a trip is such a Zen thing, almost a metaphor for life in general. How little do I really need? What is absolutely essential? Each item must pass the "necessity or luxury" test. It all gets more difficult as the trip gets longer and/or the climate gets harsher. Around home, I am firmly in the "too much ain't enough" camp and carry all of my photo gear plus laptop plus backup hard drive plus spare tripod, etc... in the trunk of the car at all times. I am getting excited about going to Boston for a week starting Thursday a.m. Have not been there for a very long time even though I grew up in the central part of the state. Will have a three day seminar on property management through the weekend and then several days to play tourist and visit what is left of the family. Being in a new environment always seems to clear out some of the creative cobwebs that start growing in the corners and clogging up the flow whenever life gets too routine for too long. I try my best to make every day a good day. Wake up in the morning and be thankful for still breathing. Work towards keeping a good attitude: be amused rather than annoyed; overcome a fresh challenge instead of getting pissed off at a new obstacle. This way the day goes by faster and happier, other people like you better and a lot more gets done better. Problems are only problems when you think of them as problems and give them that power over your life.
